Help Families Put Food on Their Table - by Growing It!

SeedLinks sprouted from The Wildwoods Foundation’s garden program at the Magnolia Place Family Center, where parents volunteered to maintain the garden at the pre-school there.

But it was more than tending to plants. It was a place that fostered friendships and social connectedness. The garden brought back traditions and memories of home. It was a place to celebrate and share cultural heritage, and spark new traditions in the community.

The garden provided security and nourishment, to the body, mind, and heart.

Now, with the Family Center closed because of COVID-19, Wildwoods is staying connected to that network of community volunteers, helping them garden at home.

Each family receives the supplies to start a container garden that suits their space. And online support from our staff.

Since these families live in a "food desert," gardening increases the likelihood of kids eating more fresh fruits and vegetables, providing healthier alternatives and more nutritious snacks.

Growing their own food helps families become more self-reliant and contributes to their economic stability.

And these families help grow the network, finding other families to garden, supporting their efforts by sharing their harvest and seedlings.

In a time of so much uncertainty, home gardening will help families spend more time with nature, and with each other, strengthening family bonds.

We are asking a few of our key partners to take part in this peer-to-peer campaign and rally their friends, family, and networks to support the SeedLinks program. Everyone gets their own page that you can customize with your own appeal language. Setting up your page is easy and we'll give you all the tools you need, including photos and video. And you set your own goal. Your page links with your Facebook profile, which makes outreach possible with just a few clicks.

But those few clicks can make a big difference.

With your help - even in the face of everything that these families have to deal with right now - we can provide them with the tools to eat healthier, save money, and spend time outdoors.
